Description: Spanish colonial era in the Philippines introduced a lot of cultural and artistic aspects in the country. Jewelry making was quite fashionable and in demand during earlier times. Iberian inspired designs were incorporated with indigenous style. Tambourine necklaces were de rigueur, and many damsels and matrons alike vie to have one. This necklace was done in silver with intricate filigree designs. The necklace is composed of beads and floral shape embellishments. The pendant is held by a butterfly shape fixture. Sometimes a relic of a saint is incorporated inside and ensconced in glass. It is believed to be more than eighty years old and probably come from Northern Philippines.
