Antique 19th Century Virgin Mary, Santo Carving, Religious Custom Base

Title: Antique 19th Century Virgin Mary, Santo Carving, Religious Custom Base
Description: The devotion of the Filipinos has long been known to revolve around santos. These santos, the majority of which are made of wood, were crucial instruments introduced during the Spanish period to aid in the evangelization of the Philippines. Up for sale is this lovely representation of the Virgin Mary. She is done in the popular style, the predominant style in the Philippines, which are typically made by unschooled hands and characterized by their somewhat disproportionate features. She is believed to be over a hundred years old as evident in the wood’s patina and is sure to be an excellent addition to any antique collection.
