|Title||:||Vintage Religious Carving of Unidentified Tonsured Saint, Wood Santo|
Icons and other religious images were crucial for the conversions of indigenous peoples to the Roman Catholic Church, which was itself an integral part of the Spanish colonization of the Philippines. Although the Spanish Occupation has ended over one hundred years ago, the santero culture in the Philippines is stronger than ever.
Up for sale is this lovely depiction of an unidentified male saint holding a quill pen and a book (possibly the Bible). He is done in the popular folk style and is a vintage reproduction believed to be about fifteen to twenty years old.
