|Title||:||Pre-War St. Roch, San Roque Religious Statue, Folk Carving, Statuette, 100 Years Old|
Popular throughout the Philippine Islands, the only country in Asia with a predominant Christian population, these carvings or santos as they are locally called can be found in many homes. While santos are widespread throughout the country, older examples such as this one are increasingly harder to come by.
This carving of the beloved St. Roch is done in the popular folk style. He is easily identified here with his unique pose, bearing his thigh to reveal a wound that was said to have been miraculously healed. Beloved and especially revered throughout the Philippines, San Roque would be a worthy addition to any santo collection or home altar.
