Description: Nuestra Senora del Santissimo Rosario (Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary) - The image of the Virgin under the title of “Our Lady of the Rosary” is one of the oldest in the Philippines that dates back during the early Spanish colonial regime. Affluent Filipino families, such as those living in the Walled City of Intramuros were much attached to the prevailing fad of acquiring their own religious images made from famous ateliers mostly based in nearby Quiapo district. This important wooden image of the Virgin is made from baticuling, a native wood from the Philippines. This icon can be classified as a collector’s item and a piece of interest due to some factors. Firstly, it has a movable body parts such as the head, arms, and hands, and classified as “Bastidor”. Secondly, it can don vestments of interest, such as those made from velvety materials adorned with embellishments and classic appliqué. Thirdly, a peruke or wig can be attached to the head, and can be adorned likewise with a rostrillo and aureola. Such image can still look regal and exquisite because their owners lavish them with precious or semi-precious jewels all over the bodice. The image has some minor abrasions, cracks, and discoloration due to age. It is believed to be more than a hundred years of age and probably come from Central Philippines.
