Raul Isidro

was born in Calbayog City, Sanar 1943. (Gestural abstracts & prints) BFA Advtg UST 1965. Joined faculty of the PWU in 1968, where he taught art education for nine years. Later, was director of the dept. Also taught briefly at Collage of the Holy Spirit during the ‘70s. Former Pres Corazon Aquino took art lessons under him. Since his first solo exhibit in 1969 at Solidaridad Galleries, has had more than 20 others, the latest Luz Gallery in 1999. Was Fascinated with abstract forms from the start of his career, including works inspired by the tribal alphabet or alibata. In the early ’70’s, returned to figuration using acrylic on metal etching. In the mid-70’s, his works turned pure abstract, bold gestures of the brush made sleek because he coated his surfaces with thick polishes of lacquer.
