Mario Parial

was born in Gapan, Nueva Ecija 1944. (Neo-folk naïf & graphic art) BFA Advtg UST, 1969. Son Mikel is also a painter. First solo, 1965. Taught printmaking and painting at UST, 1969-1983. His prints have folk genre and mythical subjects marked by a lively decorative appeal with emphasis on a two-dimensional design. In painting he developed a strong folk quality. His 1979 Series is characterized by vigorous design and vivid hues. His works also gave a strong sense of organic life, in which plants have spiky rhythmic shapes and intense colors. The woman figure is central, even the Virgin Mary in all her splendor. Won 1st prizes in the ff: The 1966 AAP Graphic Art Competition; the 1966 SNSAC; and the 1967 PAL art contest.
