Jun Caingat

was born in Mla, 1944. ( Portraits and figurative abstracts) Studied under Pal de Prat at the Julian Ashton School of Arts in Sydney. First solo, Officers Club, Clark Airbase, 1988. Latest solo, Heritage Art Center, Megamall 2000. Paints geometric neo-figures full of nervous, surging , energy. Technique is a take-off from graphic cartooning or line-drawing, allowing the lines to sprout new, plastic forms, influenced by the figurative work of Vincente Manasala and Ang Kiukok, and the colors of Cesar Legaspi. Uses a composite of layers, some over lapping, others not, to allow portions of the undercoating to show through. Applies paint with sponge, giving a porous effect that adds tactile element to the final work. Joined group show with the Filipino community in Oakland, Calif in 1985; and Queens, NY in 1987. Migrating to Australia with his family in 1994, the State Rail Authority of New South Wales selected him as the migrant artist to execute the mural < Journey of Blacktown> in 1996, now on display at the Blacktown Bus /Rail Interchange. Is the main portrait artist of the famous cricket and foot ball players of Australia. While in the Phil, was an active member of the Aspisang Metung group in San Fernando, Pampanga. Won 1st prize, Pathers, Annual Australian Day competition, Penrith, NSW, 1997 and 1999. [BIOS-JS]
