Jeff Dizon

was born in Manila 1954.(Neo-genre) BFA UP 1976 on the following scholarships; Celia Diaz Laurel, 1973; Jose Moreno, 1974; Gov Isidro Rodriguez, 1975; Jean Paul Kraft, Air France, & David Forcher of the Musee Decoratif de Louvere, Paris, 1976. Daughter Phapus also studied also studied art at UP, while wife Emma runs a gallery, Art Works. Won 1st prizes, Araw ng Maynila spot painting contest; Pepsi Natl Art Contest, 1961; and Unang sigaw ng Maynila spot competition 1962. Second Prize, Asian Arts Festival Malaysia, 1975. Was to Cambodia, 1969. Artist-in-residence, The Forum Gallery, 1981. [20th CENT 1st Ed-MD]*** In 1966, entered UST High on a Mayor Villegas grant. Painted movie billboards for Mario Cueto’s shop in Divisoria, but quilt shortly in favor of doing signboards, displays, and designs for doing signboards, displays, and designs for stores and shops in Marikina. Presented his first one-man exhibit of 160 drawings of Cambodia, at Metro Gallery, 1977. Did an installation for a group show at the Cabott in NY and Washington DC in 1979. In 1980, went to Mexico with Mariano del Rosario and Rene Mata, where joined modern Mexican artist for a group exhibit at Museo de Moderno. Also participated in a show of contemporary art in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In 1981, spent six months with the Forum Group, which he co-founded in Los Banos, and participated in the group’s four exhibits of experimental art. Was part of the 1992-95 traveling exhibits of Alegria Art & Decor. [20th CENT Vol II-MD].

Isabelo Quiles

was born in Madellin, Cebu 1948. (Figurative genre) San Carlos Univ. Worked as a painter in 1964 at Cebu Arts Unlimited owned by Carmelo Tamayo, under whom he studied for two years at the San Carlos Univ. Also studied under Martino Abellana. Worked as layout artist at Advtg Asso in Cagayan de Oo. Moved to Mla in 1968, getting employment as figure artist with Hi-Art, an Outdoor company in Makati. By 1970, opened his own Quiles Advtg in Davao City. Has assisted National Artist Victorio Edades in commissioned work. First solo, Asiatic Gallery, 1981. Fourth and fifth solos, Mla Hotel, 1993-94. Participated in a traveling exhibit which toured China, Japan and Australia, 1984. Featured in the book by Alice Guillermo. Pres, Davao Durian Artist, 1970-74. Board member, Art Asso of Davao, 1980. First prizes, Datu Bago Portrait competition, 1973; Davao City Lions Week competition, 1974; and the First Mt Apo spot painting competition, 1978. [20th CENT Vol II- MD]

Angelito "Jo" Florendo

When Angelito Florendo finished his elementary grades, he had to stop schooling, so he immediately started on art apperenticeship under Martin Catalos. Tanay’s UP trained art mentor who gave informal instruction at home to young people inclined towards the arts. But it was in the ‘90s when Jojo, as he is called, was actively joining the on-the-spot painting session of the Tanay Artist Group, that he came under the influence of senior TAG artist jun Tiongco and Lito Payawal. Ka Ante Catalos, his beloved teacher, would pass away in 1993, but up to the last, Catalos gave Jojo and his young companions art instruction on a regular basis, even in his last months of illness. Jojo’s characteristics subject matter are white flowers- still life groupings of fresh, white flowers that serve to enhance the glimmer of glass and vase.

Ros Arcilla

was born in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, 1938. ( Monuments and abstract figurative sculpture in aluminum, bronze, jade, wood, and glass ) BFA, sculpture, UP 1960. Advanced studies in sculpture, Univ of Hawaii, 1975. French govt scholarship grantee, Ecole de Beaux Arts, Paris 1980. First one-man show Mla Hilton, 1971. Taught at UE, and was a board member of the Society of Phil Sculptors. Also worked as art director for a number of printing companies. [CENT-MD] *** Primarily known for figurative abstraction in bronze and glass. Sometimes adds other materials for contrast to enhance his themes . His forms are schematized in to the essence of the subject, mainly along geometric simplification. His elegant lines infuse dignity to his human figures, and compensate for their characteristic lack of facial features. Represented the Phil at the Intl Art exhibit in Osaka, Japan, 1967 and the Paris-Sud Biennale, 1973. Won the grand slam of 1st prize, gold medal, and grand prize, sculpture category, AAP Annual of 1978. [CCP Vol IV-SP]
