Pat Reyes

was born in Sampaloc, Manila, 1940.Two years Advertising UST, 1960. Commerce,UE 1963. BFA UE, 1967. on scholarship. Color separation course in graphic arts, 1963. Workshop on effective visual design, 1990. Course on effective visual, 1990. Course on graphic design using computers, 1990. First solo, Hidalgo Gallery, 1975. One of the artist who participated in the making of Ayala Museum dioramas. Was employed as graphic artist at Seameo Innotech, an ASEAN organization that produces education materials for schools, until he decided to go fulltime into painting. Started painting in the 70’s, but not continuously, as his job gave him very little time to paint. Worked as stripper – cameraman at Bookman Printing Press, and as artist illustrator at DECS’s Radio TV unit. Was part of the makati Group exhibits in 1972, Intercontinental Hotel. This was a group made up of the artist working on the dioramas at Ayala Museum, such as Elmer Gernale, Loreto Racuya, and Wilfredo Villanueva. In 1980, did two large commissioned murals for Solid Bank. In 1988, participated in the First Filipino Visual Arts Festival in San Francisco, staying on for 15 months. Joined the Heritage Art Center group of artist, 1991. Cert of merit, SNSAC spot painting division, 1966. Known for his phosphorescent paintings of urban market scenes, his women with elongated torsos influenced by Anita Magsaysay – Ho. His colors muted versions of Oscar Zalemeda’s. He began with figurative graphic abstractions that were crisp masses of forms and shapes treated as flat areas or divisions of color. This inclination somehow led him to a more realistic ( and larger) orientation on purely graphic shapes were too heavy to carry. Has had four one-man exhibits, three at Hidalgo Gallery, 1975,’76, and ’79, and in 1994. at Heritage Gallery SM Megamall. Has participated in four group exhibits in Germany in 1978, Singapore in 1980 and the US in 1982.
