Oying Madrillejos

was born in Mandaluyong 1957. (Ethnic pop art) Radio Communications, Samson Technical School 1980. Art studies, PWU under Ibarra de la Rosa, 1983. Dad Jose was a graduate of architectural drafting at Mapua. At 18, father got a contract to repair the Julio Nakpil studio rented by Jaime Roque and other artist. Learned to sketch and draw from the other young apprentice of the group, Robbie Nubia. Met Vincent Ramos, Lito Barcelona, and thought them, Boy Rodriguez, who encouraged him to study art at nearby PWU, where he taught. In 1985, painter Joey Valerio introduce him to Heritage Gallery, which started to carry his works and set him up in a studio. Other artist billeted there were Raul Lebajo and Gilbert Magpantay. First one-man show, Manila Garden Hotel, 1985. Had three man-show with Gene de Loyola and Jun Dulay, Ched Gallery. Has had half dozen solos to date. Work chosen best entry at the Third Filipino Art Festival. Glendale National Library, to celebrate Fil-Am Friendship way. Sponsored by the Council of Filipino-American Organizations of San Diego, was awarded a tour to Los Angeles. Jointly formed Arte Ethnika with Rey Contreras, and was part of their exhibits at the National Museum. Elected chairman, Saring Kulay, 1996; and pres, Lunda (Luntiang Daigdig Artist Group). 1997 which initiated the Piso sa Pasig mural competition. Won 3rd prizes, Metrobank competition, and 2nd prize at NEA’s Rural Electrification competition, 1990. Finalist, Light Foundation’s Ecology painting contest. Juror’s choice, Philip Morris Phil Art Awards, 1995, and drawing category, AAP Annual, 1988-’99. Finalist, Diwa ng Sining competition. [20th CENT Vol III-MD
