Title: The Wainwright Papers Vol. I: Historical Documents of World War II in the Philippines
Author: Celedonio A. Ancheta
Synopsis: The Wainwright papers will undoubtedly widen one’s perspective of World War II as fought in the Philippines. Consisting mostly of collated reports of operations and activities prepared by the commanding generals and staff of the USAFFE command and subordinate units, The Wainwright Papers will put into new light the why’s and how’s of USAFFE action in the country. Volume I puts together a report of operations of USAFFE and USFIP in the Philippines, 1941-1942 by Gen. Jonathan Wainwright; Report of operations of North Luzon Force, and I Philippine Corps by General Wainwright as commanding general; Report of operations of South Luzon Force; Bataan Defense Force, and II Philippine Corps by Maj. Gen. George Parker, Jr., as commanding general; Report of operations of South Luzon Force by Brig. Gen. Albert Jones, as commanding general; Report of operations of Luzon Force by Maj. Gen. Edward King, Jr., as commanding general. The painstaking efforts of the author in gathering significant materials from the US National Archives and Records Service in Alexandria, Virginia, when he was a Fulbright exchange professor and researcher in 1967-68, can be better appreciated when viewed against the backdrop of Bataan and Corregidor, two battlegrounds which are symbolic of our people’s aspiration for peace and freedom.
