A Treasury of Philippine Nudes

Author: Gino Dormiendo
Synopsis: Throughout the history of art, the naked body, according to the eminent art historian Sir Kenneth Clark, is a pretext of great importance. In his book The Nude, A Study of Ideal Art, Clark posits the belief that "the body, as a nucleus, is rich in associations, and when it is turned into art all these associations are not entirely lost. For this reason it seldom archieves the concentrated shock of animal ornament, but it can be made expresive of a far wider and more civilizing experience. It is ourselves, and arouses memories of all things we wish to do with ourselves; and first of all we wish to do perpetuate."
