Rizaliana: Mga Dula at Tula, Plays and Poems

Title: Rizaliana: Mga Dula at Tula, Plays and Poems
Author: Sedfrey A. Ordonez
Synopsis: Any person who is exposed to the life and work of Jose Rizal cannot fail to realize the universality of Rizal’s vision and the profundity of his thoughts. And when that reader is a Filipino, the surge of pride that wells in him at the realization the Jose Rizal was a Filipino may be pardoned for his excessive pride. That pride, however, is not the pride of vanity. It is pride born of admiration, born of desire to excel as Rizal did excel. The Maria Clara, the Sisa, the Crisostomo Ibarra, and the Elias in the novels of Rizal are fictional characters in the nationalistic minds of Rizal but the influence of those fictional characters in the discovery of the Filipinos ethos is certainly not fictional. By placing in the mouths of the fictional Maria Clara, Sisa, Crisostomo Ibarra and Elias words in lyrical form as found in the poems and plays in this present work, the author believes that this art form may be used in emphasizing the values which Rizal wrote about.
