Jose Rizal: His Martyrdom

Title: Jose Rizal: His Martyrdom
Author: Jose Ma. Hernandez, Esteban A. de Ocampo and Zosimo C. Ella
Synopsis: This book emphasizes Rizal’s martyrdom. It presents Rizal as a man who sacrificed everything for the happiness of his people and the freedom of his country. Thus from this volume the sixth grade pupil will learn how to be selfless, humble, honest, brave, and above all, patriotic. Some men live and die as martyrs of faith. Others, like Rizal, live and die as martyrs of patriotism. In this book a new type of presentation has been used. Reproduced here are sample copies of newspapers of Malolos and Manila published two years after Rizal’s martyrdom. In this way, it is hoped that the pupil will be able to understand something of the background and the feeling of Rizal’s times especially after the martyr’s execution in Bagumbayan. The “news story” about the historical developments of those days which accompanies the biography of the hero is based on historical facts.
