Rene Rocha

Born in Uson, Masbate 1937. BFA Sculpture major, UP 1963. Apprenticed under Napoleon Abueva and Anastacio Caedo. His style melds the classical and the moder, capturing and preserving the essence of an image and list strong and lasting character. Reduces figures to planes with incised lines, stylized forms, and intersecting cubes. Took up correspondence course with Scranton Intl/ First solo, Mla Peninsula, 1978. Also exhibited at Rear Room Gallery in 1981. Won the 1st prizes in the 1963 AAP Annual and Semi-Annual; and grand prize at the 1965 AAP Annual. Recipient of the Araw ng Maynila Award in art, 1980. Participated in the Seattle World's Fair of 1962 and the NY World's Fair, 1964. Creates forms abstracted from the objective world with elegant polished surfaces.
