Nick Aranda

was born in Pulang Lupa, Las Pinas 1920. ( Realist landscapes ) Apprenticed in 1937-39’s at the Hino Agawi Shop at FlorentinoTorres cor Soler in Sta. Cruz. Did sign painting, figures and portraiture for Parlatone, LVN, and Sampaguita Pictures. Became a jeepney sign painter of Sarao Motors in Las Pinas before and after the war together with the late Anastacio Francisco, and later of the design section of M Medina Transportation. Became known for his debujo and carromata design. Met Fernando Amorsolo, whom he greatly admired and emulated. Was also close to artist Crispin Lopez, Antonio Dumlao, Fernando Sanchez, Napoleon Noriel, Simon Saulog, and Mariano Guevarra. Elected to public office as municipal councilor of Las Pinas, 1959-’62. Worked at the US Military Base in Wake Island, Hawaii, 1976-’87, where he was a color photography technician. On his return, was active in group exhibits at Mla Hotel, Philamlife, Mla Midtown Hotel, and La Salle Art Gallery. Member, Portraitst Asso of the Phil and Luntiang Daigdig group. Chairman, Art Asso of Las Pinas, Founding pres, Las Pinas Artist group, 1997. Finalist, Diwa ng Sining awards, 1994 [BIOS-JS].
