Mamerto Evangelista

was born in Tondo, Mla 1937. (Neo-colonial water colors, murals and dioramas) Studied fine arts at UST, 1960-1961. Worked as staff artist at Bulaklak Publications in the early ‘60s. Was artist- illustrator, Nat’l Museum’s <400 Years of Christian Culture> exhibit, Cebu City, 1965. Illustrated children’s books for De La Salle College, 1965-67. Pioneered in making miniature historical dioramas, Ayala Museum, 1967-81 under Director Carlos Quirino. Has constructed dioramas for Villa Escudero Museum in San Pablo City, the Nat’l Historical Inst, the Phil Army Museum, Phil Military Academy, and Quezon Memorial Museum. With group of artist, constructed 33 dioramas for former First lady Imelda Marcos in Tacloban City, Leyte, now on exhibit at the Sto Nino Shrine and People’s Library, First solo exhibit of paintings, Heritage Art Center, Sm Megamall, 1995. Commissioned by the Phil Military Academy to do four murals on important historical battles, 1999. [BIOS-JS]
