Lito Barcelona

was born in Labo, Camarines Norte 1948. (Magic realism). Elder brother Rody is a fulltime artist, and second daughter Marlyn has a BFA in Advtg from UP. Father Jose Barcelona, foreman with the Bu of Public Highways, painted portraits on the side. Earned free passes as a teenager doing cinema cartels for a moviehouse. Left for Mla in 1966 and stayed with godfather Ger Viterbo Sr, who ran a painting shop in Tanduay, Quiapo. Assisted Viterbo in doing silkscreen work after fine arts classes at the UST. Through professor Larry Tronco, got add jobs from the advtg firm J. Walter Thompson. Met painter Ely Gajo, whom we considered the finest exponent of the Andrew Wyeth school. Moved to J. Romero & Asso, birthplace of the Magic Realist group, composed of J. Romero artists nestor Leynes, Emmanuel Liado, Ger Viterbo Jr. and Jaime Roque. The group had their first show at Sining Kamalig in 1973, followed by two other that year. The group exhibited together until 1979, after which they disbanded. First one-man show, Hyatt Regency Gallery, 1977. Most recent solo, 1992, Micaller Art Center. Later worked as art director at Jardine Davies. Was vice pres of Conceptlab Design Studio, servicing pharmaceutical companies. Has had 2-man shows with Jaime Roque (1972 and 1981), Vincent Ramos (1977), and Rodolfo Roa (1992).
