Eduardo "Ed" Castrillo

was born in Sta. Ana, Mla. 1942. (Abstract sculpture and jewelry). Son of Santiago Silva Castrillo, ajewelrer, and Magdalena de los Santos, a leading actress of zarzuela and Holy Week pageants Makati. BFA Advtg UST 1962. [20th CENT Vol I-MD]*** Worked as jewelry designer at La Estrella del Norte in 1965. First solo, Northern Motors Showroom, 1966. Included in the Phil participation to the VII Bienneil de Paris in France. Four individual exhibits since 1966. Araw ng Maynila Award, Cultural Heritage Award in Art, TOYM Award from the Phil Jaycees; all in 1971. Named one of the Thirteen Artists by the CCP; 1970. Recd one of four major awards at the 1st Nat’l Sculpture competition, Nat’l Library, 1968. [CPA-MD]*** Held a number of solo exhibits in the US: at the Agra Gallery in Washington DC, Plaza Hotel in NY, and Via de Parigi on Palm Beach. Also participated in the Fukuoka Int’l Art show in Japan. Next to Abueva, has contributed significally in revitalizing sculpture in the Phil. Made hi mark in the 60’s with his public sculpture for memorial parks, like and the Redemption,> and public monuments such as the Has worked in a wide variety of mediums, including bronze, brass, stainless steel, chrome, plexiglass, and scrap metal; using processes like hammerouts, reliefs, assemblages, and bronze casting, mostly abstract.
