Teodoro Buenaventura

TEODORO BUENAVENTURA was born in Paombong, Bulacan 1863 died 1950. ( Clasical realism ) Fatherless at the age of 14, came to Mla to look for work. His employer sponsored his education at the Escuela Superior de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado. In 1899, opened a portrait shop in San Jose, Trozo. Also opened a school, the Academia de Dibujo, in his home. Among his students were Serafin Serna , Tomas Benardo, and Mauro Malang Santos. Founding teacher, UP School of Fine Arts, where he taught from 1909 to 1935. One of the early masters of classical realism in the Phil. Bulk of Major works destroyed during WWII. Most of those preserved are small andscapes and genre pieces such as the pair of portraits at the Central Bank of the Phil. Won bronze medal, Exposition Regional de Filipinas in 1985, and a silver medal in 1908 at the Association International de Artistas exhibit. [CCP Vol IV-SP]
