Marcelino Rodriguez

was born in Mla 1946. (Experimental mixed- media paintings & prints ). Graduated Architecture, UST 1969. Pratt Graphic Arts Center, NY, 1970-74 on a four-year scholarship. Son of Manuel Rodriguez Sr. and brother of painter Boy Rodriguez. Helped his father manage the Contemporary Graphic arts Workshopin Ma. Later assisted his brother Boy during in running Sepia Gallery and Workshop in Manhattan in 1973. Experimented in a variety ofgraphic techniques, although he was most partial to etching and aquatint. Most of his works are decorative, utilizing abstract patterns. Technical virtuously and self-confident boldness akin to American pop art characterize his artistry. Among the group exhibit he has participated in are: the First Indian Triennale in New Delhi in 1968;Kutingting at the CCP Main Gallery in 1980; and at the Museum of Phil Art. Won 1st prizes at the First AAP Graphic Arts Competition, 1966 and the First PAP Graphic Annual, 1968; 3rd prize at the 17th SNSAC of 1967; and grand prize at the 1969 PAP Annual. [CCP Vol IV- I.C. [CPA-MD]***As a child, made wire sculpture of figures. Met well-know artist Manansala, Zobel and Aviado, who came to his father’s Contemporary Art Gallery to study printmaking. First solo, Luz Gallry, 1969, the year he graduated from UST. After enrolling in one subject at the Pratt Graphic Arts Center in NY, recd a four-year scholarship from the school. Included in the traveling show to Canada, NY Calif, and Austraia. Opened his own workshop in Soho called Artspace 22, in 977. Met Leonard Maskowitz in 1982, who placed his works in many US galleries. Mounted a major exhibit in Mla at the CCP in 1980, and another solo at the Luz in 1981. Opened one-man shows at Helle Gallery in Copenhagen, 1982; and Water Gallery in Missouri in 1989. Demonstrated his art at the < Art Trend Exhibit > in Mobile, Alabama, and the at High Point, North California, 1985. Was artist-in-residence at Salaginto Workshop, Rockland, NY, 1991. With his father and brother, joined the exhibits at the Phil Center, NY, 1987; Mark Briskin Gallery, NY, 1993; and Heritage Art Center, Shangrila, Mla, Shagrila, Mla, 1996. By 1997, was working on hand- colored monoprints that incorporated heavy embossing , gold leaf copper metal, and collage. Voted one of he outstanding young men of America, 1981.
